5 Easy Eco Swaps for the Kitchen This Winter

🌿 Winter is the perfect time to slow down, get cosy in the kitchen — and take stock of the single-use plastics quietly piling up in your drawers. The good news? Swapping them out is easier (and more affordable) than you think.

Here are 5 simple kitchen swaps that will reduce your waste, save you money in the long run, and make your kitchen feel a little more intentional this winter. ❄️

1. Swap Cling Wrap → Honeybee Reusable Wax Wraps

Cling wrap is one of the most wasteful things in the average kitchen — used once, then straight to landfill. Beeswax wraps are a beautiful, natural alternative. Simply warm them with your hands, mould around food or bowls, and they hold their shape as they cool. Perfect for wrapping cheese, bread, half-cut veggies and leftovers.

Tip: store them in a cool spot in winter — they last even longer in cooler temperatures!

2. Swap Zip-Lock Bags → Reusable Silicone Food Bags

Reusable silicone food bags are airtight, leakproof and perfect for soups, stews, snacks and meal prep — all the things we do more of in winter. Wash, dry, repeat. No more buying boxes of zip-lock bags every few weeks.

3. Swap Plastic Wrap on Bowls → Reusable Silicone Stretch Lids

Got leftover soup or a half-cut onion? Stretch lids pop over any bowl or container to create an airtight seal — no plastic wrap needed. They’re microwave, dishwasher and freezer safe, making them one of the most versatile swaps in the kitchen.

4. Swap Plastic Scrubbers → EcoCoconut Brushes & Scourers

Those plastic dish scrubbers shed microplastics every time you use them — straight into your water supply. EcoCoconut scourers are made from natural coconut fibre, tough on baked-on food, and completely plastic-free. They’re also compostable at end of life. 🫕

5. Swap Liquid Dish Soap → Tuffy Dish Wash Bar

A solid dish wash bar lasts far longer than a bottle of liquid soap, creates zero plastic waste, and is just as effective on grease and grime. The Tuffy Lemon & Lime bar smells amazing and is a favourite in the KitMaii team’s own kitchens. 🍋

Small Swaps, Big Impact

You don’t need to overhaul your entire kitchen overnight. Start with one swap this week — maybe the stretch lids or a wax wrap — and see how quickly it becomes second nature.

Sustainable living isn’t about being perfect. It’s about making better choices, one drawer at a time. 🌿
